Are your Tires Star rated in India

Updated: Aug 2, 2022

The Star rated tires are said to be made available for three categories of vehicles – C1, C2 and C3. Of this, C1 are personal vehicles, C2 are light goods vehicles and C3 are heavy goods vehicles. Star rated tires will be available in the market within the next 6 to 9 months. For this, the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) has completed talks with the tire industry.

Tires will be rated based on their ability to provide better grip, save fuel, generate less noise and protect the vehicle from slippage. A better star rating for a tire would mean that the tire would be able to save fuel and give more mileage to the vehicle. Tires with a 5-star rating can save about 10-15% of fuel in a car.

Star rated tires will help weed out poor quality tires in the Indian market. These tires will set a new benchmark of quality in the Indian market, thereby curbing the import of defective tires. The government’s plan is to make India’s tire industry self-reliant.

Ceat Tire is already selling star rated tires. The company is selling its tires[1] [2] under different performance ratings. The range offers two tire ranges which include the fuel efficient FuelSmart and Secure Drive tires.
